Dr. Saurav Khuttiya Deori

Dr. Saurav Khuttiya Deori is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Design at IIT Hyderabad. He earned both his master's and Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, specializing in Visual Communication. His doctoral research focused on the architectural ornamentation of early monuments from the Ahom dynasty in Assam. In recognition of the excellence of his Ph.D. work, he was honored with the Best Thesis Award for the year 2021–2022 by IIT Guwahati.
Beyond his academic achievements, Saurav has actively contributed to a thematic project supported by the Design Innovation Centre (DIC) at IIT Guwahati, funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. This initiative aimed to develop various promotional tools to enhance Assam’s tourism industry. His professional experience spans branding, print, and publishing projects for institutions such as IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, the Directorate of Cultural Affairs (Government of Assam), and the Government of Bodoland Territorial Council, India.
Currently, Saurav is deciphering India's heritage ornamentations, exploring their historical significance and visual language. His commitment to education has been recognized with the Teaching Excellence Award in 2024. His research and professional interests include visual ethnography, heritage preservation, branding and identity design, and print publications.
